If I may make a suggestion but first purpose:
Spanish speaking baseball broadcasts would be incredible to do. The Latino community, specifically the islands and central America, have had an extensive and brutal history revolving around racism and overcoming stereotypes. It would be amazing to hear what this population has to say about a sport that has brought so much stigma, popularity and hope to this particular community.

My suggestion would be to ensure yourself that qualified people are watching and documenting the Spanish speaking programs. Students who study language, although esteemed, do not possess the correct “interpretation” skills. Interpretation v. translation. They will most likely be able to translate; however to interpret attitude, background and hidden agenda in language is beyond what someone can learn in a classroom. What I would urge instead are native Spanish speaking sports writers. The idea is they will all ready have a community basis for the language and the players. They will also have idioms in place that non-native Spanish speakers would not know.

Adam I believe is a grad student in sociology at University of Virginia. He’s passed along the lit review to a couple of professors and we’re talking about making it public, but I dunno … let’s wait until we’re funded, right?
